01 - HISTORY
Pontifícia Universidade Católica
de Campinas (PUC-Campinas) a sixty-nine year Institution of
Higher Education, nationally recognized as one of the best
universities in the country, has the characteristic of being
an institution aimed at attending, especially, Campinas and
its metropolitan region and focusing its works at humanitarian
issues. The trajectory of PUC-Campinas, which has already
educated more than 150 thousand professionals, gains a new
chapter each day. Those who write such history are the students,
professors and staff who act at the three University Campi.
When created, in 1941, the Institution arrived precisely to
compensate the ascending demand for self-employed professionals
and new educators, in a city of around 100 thousand residents.
Today, Campinas has a totally different reality. The municipality
reached more than 1 million residents and became national
reference due to its economic importance, harboring the second
most important science and technology center in the Country
and also for being one of the most important academic centers
in Brazil, with several Higher Education institutions. PUC-Campinas,
which opened such pioneer space, continues having as main
mission the development of professionals for the region, but
not leaving aside new educational, market and labor demands,
and even those from its own population. Thus, over the last
few years it has been investing in the qualification of graduation
and Stricto Sensu post-graduation, in the expansion of researches,
the increase in the offer of Lato Sensu post-graduation courses
and its extension activities.
The history of the PUC-Campinas started on June 7th,1941,
when its first Unit, the Philosophy, Sciences and Letters
College was created. At that time, the Diocese of Campinas
acquired an old mansion from Joaquim Polycarpo Spider, known
as the Barão of Itapura.
In 1955, the Philosophy, Sciences and Letter College became
Universidade Católica (Catholic University), recognized
by the Federal Council of Education. The title of Pontifical
was granted by the Pope Paulo VI in 1972.
Soon the mansion built in the end of XIX century became small
to hold all of the University´s courses. That way the
new campus were arising according to the need of space: the
Campus I, the Campus II, and the Institute and Letters.
PUC-Campinas has also a University Hospital (360 places)
and PIO XII School (Elementary and High School degrees)
The internationalization of the campus is one of the most
important goals of the Institutional Strategic Plan 2002/
2012, focusing on integrated practical and theoretical procedures
as basis for the joint programs developed with partners abroad.
The Department of International and Foreign Affairs (DRE)
from PUC-Campinas is responsible for the design of the University’s
National and International Cooperation Project, which aims
at fomenting the Exchange of information and the production
of knowledge, stimulating the full development of student
and teaching bodies.
Presently, the Department works at the maintenance and diversification
of cooperation agreements, at the regulation of remittance
and reception of students and professors and at the organization
and coordination of exchange programs. It acts, still, as
facilitator of the international experience for the students
publicizing and promoting lectures, presentations, fairs,
workshops informing the student about the diverse courses,
programs and scholarships, as well as orienting them at the
obtainment of documentation for such.
Another activity developed by the DRE refers to the support
for the professional development of egresses abroad, by means
of preparation and issuance of specific documentation for
such purpose.

40 years of the Social Communications Courses
04.19.2010
The Center for Languages and Communications (CLC) from PUC-Campinas,
celebrates the 40 years of the Social Communications Courses
with qualification in
Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising and Marketing.
Along four decades, the courses formed around 10 thousand
students, who
operate at the Campinas Metropolitan Region (RMC), at the
national and abroad
markets. In order to attain such level of qualification, the
Social Communications
Courses went through several curricular reviews along the
years, resulting in
curriculums adapted to the professional development, technological
innovation and
demands from the labor market.
For CLC Director, Professor Rogério Eduardo Rodrigues
Bazi, the courses
mature throughout the years thanks to the investments in quality
of education and
changes in curriculum, at laboratorial infrastructure, at
research and faculty
capacitation.
Advertising and Marketing develop diversified professionals
The College of Advertising and Marketing offers at its curriculum
contents for the
utilization of tools at promotional actions, mass media, and,
for specific audiences,
actions in integrated communication and strategic planning
for campaigns and
visual communication.
Public Relations invests in strategic development
The professionals graduated by the College of Public Relations
are stimulated,
from the first grade, to strategically think communications
with different audiences.
The reflex of the course qualification is the number of awards
at national
competitions, by the Experimental Projects, working in group
of conclusion of
course, developed for real enterprises from the Public, Private
and Voluntary
Sectors.
Journalism is reference at the RMC
The College of Journalism became reference at the RMC with
its Educational
Project which prioritizes the development of a professional
with humanistic
background, technical and theoretical skills in the communications
field –
journalism in specific – and capacity of ethical judgment
so as to work in such field.
The celebrations shall take place for a year with lectures,
exhibits, debates, panel
presentations and interviews, starting with a huge event on
05 of May of 2010 and
ending May 2011.
PUC-Campinas is the best private university in the Health
field
10.28.2009
“Best Universities Student Guide and Banco Real Santander
Group” Award
Dear partners, it is with great satisfaction that we share
with you another achievement from Pontifícia Universidade
Católica de Campinas (PUC-Campinas – Pontifical
Catholic University of Campinas )
For the second consecutive time PUC-Campinas is the winner
as BEST PRIVATE INSTITUTION IN THE COURSES OF Physical Education,
Nursing, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy,
Medicine, Nutrition, Odontology/Dentistry, Psychology and
Occupational Therapy by the Student Guide, publication from
Editora Abril, renowned by its integrity and discerning evaluation
conduct.
According to information from the Student Guide, the structure
from PUC-Campinas and the opportunity of students acting at
own university-hospital were some of the factors which most
contributed to the result. “The Center of Life Sciences
(CCV), where the courses in the Health Field are offered,
include 33 laboratories, pharmacy-school, first aid posts
and speech therapy clinics, odontology/dentistry, physiotherapy
and occupational therapy. At the same campus, is the Hospital
e Maternidade Celso Pierro (Hospital and Maternity Celso Pierro ),
which attends 450 thousand patients per year”, informed
the yearly publication.
At this 5th Edition of the Best Universities Award, 9371
courses from 1332 higher education institutions were evaluated
in all Brazilian States.
According to Professor Doctor Miralva Aparecida de J. Silva,
Director of the Center of Life Sciences, it is worth to emphasize
that this acknowledgement meets other positive evaluations
which the university has received, for example, the institutional
evaluation coordinated by the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas
Educacionais do Ministério da Educação
(INEP/MEC – National Institute of Educational Researches
from the Ministry of Education ).
At the publication’s general ranking, PUC-Campinas
is the sixth placed amongst the private higher education institutions.
Editora Abril’s president, in charge of the Student
Guide, and the Secretary from the Ministry of Education (MEC)
point out that investing in education is the best way of leveraging
the country and contributing for the development of society.
